WASC
In spring 2009, South East earned a six year WASC accreditation. The Accreditation Team highlighted strengths such as its encouragement of parent participation, professional learning communities, intervention opportunities for students, advanced placement courses offered, interdisciplinary ESLR projects, and its clean campus.
Our WASC action plan is designed using a highly collaborative and transparent model, alternating meetings between home (homogeneous) and focus (heterogeneous) groups. The Leadership Team guides the process throughout. The Leadership Team reviews the plan and WASC recommendations annually and the findings are communicated to all stakeholders. As the team reviews the benchmarks that have been reached and those that remain ahead, the plan guides our work for each school year as action plan items are implemented.
The Critical Areas of Need (CANs) have been and continued to be points of reference for the Professional Development Team as they plan PD for each year. South East recognizes that the Focus on Learning process is not a stand-alone obligation completed every few years, but rather an integral part of the continuous development of our school. The timeline for developing and writing the actual plan begins more than a year out, allowing sufficient time for reflection, accountability, and problem-solving.
In the spring of 2022, South East High School went through it's third full self-study. SEHS was accredited with a six-year accreditation, with a Mid-Cycle Review/Report/1 day visit in March of 2025.
Since the visit, the Leadership Team has continued to review and guide WASC recommendations, Critical Areas of Need and Action Plan by meeting with all stakeholders.
Critical Learning Need #1:
Collaboration amongst stakeholders ensures the success of all learners: The analysis of student data and teacher feedback, revealed that SEHS must continue to support all students with equal access to curriculum through teacher support, professional development, and collaboration.
Critical Learning Need #2:
21st Century student engagement and learning for all students: Analysis of student data shows that SEHS needs to continue to support all students by implementing a social-emotional curriculum, shape interventions consistent with School Wide Positive Behavior Plan, and develop pathways for all students to be college ready and career prepared.
Critical Learning Need #3: Coaching, Reflection, and Feedback: SEHS is establishing a continuous cycle of support and reflection for teachers, students, and parents to increase a growth mindset that will provide student academic success and social-emotional well-being.
Critical Learning Need #4: SEHS needs to develop, refine, and align their small school and CTE pathways to support all students in achieving college and career readiness.
Critical Learning Need #5: SEHS needs to work in PLCs, small schools, and schoolwide to implement consistent data analysis tools which drive instruction and decision-making with fidelity.
